History

The Chesterfield Township Library was legally established by voters through the election held November 8, 1994, and has improved lives in our community for more than 25 years. The library relocated in 2005 to our current home, a 21,000 square foot rented building near 23 Mile Rd. and Gratiot Avenue, behind the movie theater off Chesterfield Rd.

Timeline
January 1954
: Bernard & Ceola Trinity begin sharing their home collection of 500 books with the community.

May 1955: "Bernard T. Trinity Neighborhood Library" opens @ 47460 Sugarbush Rd., the Trinity home.
December 17, 1956 - December 1991: Legal partnership established between 1.) Bernard T. Trinity Neighborhood Library, 2.) Township of Chesterfield, and 3.) Macomb County Library; the Bernard T. Trinity Neighborhood Library becomes a branch of Macomb County Library with bookmobile service.
July 1991: Ceola Trinity Pieronek (age 72) to retire and move; Bernard T. Trinity Neighborhood Library to close.
January 2, 1992: "Charter Township of Chesterfield Library," a branch of the Macomb County Library opens @ 33107 23 Mile Rd., Bayside Mall.
October 19, 1992: "Charter Township of Chesterfield Library" relocates to 33101 23 Mile Rd and later, 33103 23 Mile Rd., Bayside Mall.
November 8, 1994: "Chesterfield Township Library" is legally established by voters, who approve a 0.7 mill to fund public library services.
December 1995: "Chesterfield Township Library" relocates to 33091 23 Mile Rd., Bayside Mall.
August 29, 2005: "Chesterfield Township Library" relocates to 50560 Patricia Avenue (Current Location).
November 27, 2018: Library Board of Trustees purchases 5.698 acres of vacant land @ 28380 21 Mile Rd. for the purpose of building a new public library, a permanent home.
